Energy Efficiency

Five key things that matter to your window and door energy efficiency.

It’s not easy to decide which replacement window or door option is the right one for you. Certainly energy efficiency is key no matter what style you choose. But how can you make sure you ARE getting the most energy efficient windows or doors? Here are 5 key areas to look for that impact energy efficiency:

1 – Quality Frame Materials

Various frame materials offer different benefits, such as strength, durability, and the ability to custom finish but how does it impact energy efficiency?

  • Aluminum windows are strong, but are not very energy efficient.
  • Wood windows can be custom finished to match your decor, but they aren’t very insulating.
  • PVC windows, like Sunrise windows, offer the best energy efficiency if they are filled with a polyurethane insulating foam. Without this foam, vinyl windows can be pretty inefficient. So make sure you ask about the type of insulation!

Sunrise windows are made from premium, pure virgin uPVC that helps keep your home insulated and is specially designed to be extremely strong and durable. The frames are filled with polyurethane insulating foam to give you the best protection from energy loss. Add to that the ability to custom paint the exterior of your windows and the full catalog of designer options, and Sunrise windows bring you the best of all worlds.

2 – Low-E Glass: extra protection

“Low-E” refers to a special coating that reflects infrared light, keeping heat inside your home in winter and shielding your home from the heat in summer. This coating also reflects damaging ultraviolet light, which helps protect interior furnishings from fading. Sunrise offers several low-e options to help you get the best protection no matter where you live.

3 – Multiple Panes: Insulate better

Two panes of glass, with an air- or gas-filled space in the middle, insulate much better than a single pane of glass. Some ENERGY STAR qualified windows include three panes for even greater energy efficiency.

Sunrise offers both dual- and triple-pane options with a variety of low-e combinations that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR requirements.

4 – Gas Fill: better than air

Some energy-efficient windows have argon, krypton, or other gases between the panes. These odorless, colorless, non-toxic gases insulate better than regular air by reducing the conduction of heat in the space between the panes of glass. Sunrise windows are manufactured with a 90% argon or krypton gas fill, or come air-filled for high-altitude areas. 5 – Spacers: all are not created equal

A spacer keeps a window’s glass panes the correct distance apart and insulates pane edges, reducing heat transfer through the window. Spacers can come in many materials, from aluminum to stainless steel to foam. Besides insulating the panes, spacers need to be durable enough to handle the flex of the glass as it heats and cools throughout the day–all without losing the airtight seal.

Sunrise windows have a structurally sound, stainless-steel spacer with moisture-absorbing desiccant beads inside. This means that when tested under accelerated weather conditions, Sunrise glass systems outlast the competition. I purchased Sunrise Windows last year for a house I was flipping. I believe the windows were a big reason the house sold for nearly 100% of the asking price. This is a great company. I would recommend this company's products to anyone.

A company that honors their warranty! I had their windows since 1996 and the company still honors my warranty. Great windows. Great company. Thank you Sunrise!

I had all my windows and both doors replaced at the same time to my older (built in 1958) home by the folks at Sunrise and am very satisfied with the selection, service and installation! I’d recommend Sunrise to anyone renovating their older home.

Installed 30 replacement windows and 2 sliding glass doors in Raleigh, NC. No leaks, no condensation, nearly perfect inside and out. Some windows were larger than 5x5 and still no problems. No more drafts and lower hvac costs. Real quality. Check with experts who engineer glass, as I did. They look great and visitors actually notice and comment. Just a happy customer. Nice job guys!

Raleigh, NC

I replaced 32 windows in my home with your windows, they are fantastic!! For the last 10 years have been putting in windows on remodels with a contractor friend of mine, and my Sunrise Windows are the best we've done. They lowered my energy bills both summer and winter and the style window I picked worked out perfectly with the window trim/molding that we put in. They look so nice and work flawlessly so far (6 yrs).

Ft. Collins, CO

I had Sunrise Windows installed in my home in 2000. We started noticing some of the wood lament on the windows started peeling. Sixteen years later, Sunrise honored their warranty and replaced every window. This is a stand-up company.
