Cleaning the Glass in Your Sunrise Windows:
You can clean the glass with any common household glass cleaner or mild detergent. Do NOT use any petroleum-based cleaner or solvent. We recommend using a soft cloth, but a paper towel is fine. You should not add any attachments to the window or glass without the manufacturer's approval. Doing so may void the warranty.
Cleaning Sunrise Windows Featuring SunClean Self-Cleaning Glass:
We believe that if you follow the guidelines presented in the following information, you will find that SunClean [link] glass in your Sunrise Windows will provide you many years of satisfied service.
Initial Installation
The SunClean glass metal oxide coating is bonded to the surface of the glass during the manufacturing process and is extremely durable. However, during and after construction, the glass should be protected from spills, runoff, and overspray from common building materials: Caulking, lubricants and paints should be promptly removed.
First remove all product identification labels from the outside surface. Remove any adhesive residue with a clean, lint-free cloth saturated with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or other acceptable mild solvents. Spray the glass with a mixture of 50% distilled water and 50% isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or one of the cleaners on the approved list below. Thoroughly flush the glass with water to remove any loose dirt and residual cleaning agents from the glass surface. (On the area where the label was visually removed from the glass, water may “bead up” for a time. The SunClean glass coating should clean this residual adhesive over time.) You may allow the glass to self-dry, or you may squeegee it dry. After this initial cleaning, and with adequate exposure to ultraviolet light, your SunClean glass is ready to do its job. Depending on the exposure, it may take a few days for your SunClean glass to energize.
On-Going Care & Maintenance
SunClean glass is engineered to allow rainwater and sunlight to clean your glass of organic dirt and debris. In times of low rainfall, or on windows not exposed to sufficient rain, it may be necessary to do supplemental rinsing of the glass. Applying water with a spritzer bottle or a garden pump sprayer can easily do this. You should be aware, however, that exposure to hard water can result in mineral deposits on SunClean glass, just like it would with conventional clear glass. If your glass has a stubborn deposit that does not rinse away, then hand cleaning may be required.
- Use a mild soap or window cleaning solution (refer to the following list of acceptable agents.)
- If you must contact the surface of the glass to remove heavy soil, use clean, lint-free cloths to gently dislodge dirt. Be aware that some soil deposits may contain abrasive, and vigorous wiping of the dirt across the glass could cause scratching or damage to the SunClean coating or glass surface. After the soil is removed, all soap or cleaning solution and dirt debris must be thoroughly rinsed off the glass.
- Rinse and dry all cleaning solution from window gaskets, sealants and frames.
As with any glass:
- DO NOT use scrapers or razor blades to remove stubborn deposits or labels.
- DO NOT use abrasive cleaning solutions or materials such as Ajax® or Comet®.
- DO NOT allow splashed materials, such as paint, stucco, or mortar to dry on the glass surface.
NOTE: Hard water mineral deposits from any source, including over-spray from lawn and garden sprinkler systems, can build up on the glass over time, and can permanently damage the glass. Therefore, we recommend that you do not expose your SunClean glass to repeated contact with any hard water sources. If SunClean glass or any glass is subjected to hard water exposure, it should be promptly hand dried with a cloth or squeegee to avoid spotting, streaking or damage.
Acceptable Cleaning Agents

Cleaning the Window Frames:
Keeping your windows and doors clean means more than just the glass. Here are some helpful tips for cleaning the PVC frames and sashes of your Sunrise Windows effectively without damaging them.
- Clean window and doorframes with a mixture of mild dish soap* and water. Abrasive or caustic cleaners or solvents are never recommended because they might cause permanent damage to the frame finish. Mild, nonabrasive soaps* are usually safest for most dirt and stain removal.
- Always rinse completely with clear water and wipe dry.
- Check to make certain that drainage or “weep” holes are always clear of dirt and obstructions both inside and outside the window or door in the bottom of the frame.
*Ivory® is an example of a mild dish soap. Always test cleaners in an inconspicuous area first.
